This weekend Elton SC have two dinghies, a GP 14 and an Enterprise, entered in the annual 24 hour Race held at West Lance Yacht Club on the Marine Lake at Southport.
All club members are invited to this excellent weekend of sailing, fun and good fellowship. The weekend begins on Friday with setting up the Gazebo and BBQ and the boats. The race commences at 12 Noon on Saturday and crews and helms are changed every couple of hours or so until the race finishes at 12 Noon on Sunday.
Even if you have not put your name down to sail, just pop along find the Elton Tent and have some fun anytime throughout the weekend. Parking is plentiful but has to be paid for on the front adjacent to the Marine Lake.
We wish Good Sailing to all Elton members.
All members are invited to the climax of the Wednesday Evening Summer Pursuit Series this coming Wednesday. Last week saw some 34 boats on the water. Lets try and beat this number for the final. Prizes for the series winners and throughout the fleet will be presented on the night.
Optimist start 6.40pm. Be there early for a car park space.
As always Karen will provide excellent grub on the night and Dave excellent beverage to enable full analysis and discussion to take place post racing.
The 2018 Club Championships will be held this Sunday 26th August.
Three handicap races will be held with the first one starting at 12.30. Two races to count.
This is an event for all levels of experience from keen racers to those new to sailing. There will be prizes throughout the fleet and we encourage all new members to take part in this fun day. The winds look good so please come down and join in.
Firstly, the signing up sheet for the double hander trophy day on Saturday, August 11th is now displayed on the notice board. If you plan on attending can you please sign up as soon as possible in order for the pairings to be organised. Many Thanks.
Secondly, the labels with your berth number and name, along with cable ties to attach to your trolley are now in a box on the coffee table in the foyer. Please pick them up as soon as you can. In addition, the new plan for the dinghy park, kindly draughted by Nigel Greaves is displayed on the notice board if you’d like to take a look. This new plan includes a number of berths that can now be used again, thanks to the hard work of the Tuesday Gang.
Finally, the last race of the Friday Night Junior and Beginners series will go ahead as planned this Friday, July 27th at 7pm. However, the current forecast is for thunder and lightening for most of the day and well into the evening, so please be aware that we may have to abandon the racing.
Elton SC is holding its annual Streaker Open day on Saturday 4th August. Lets get all the 13 or so Home Streakers out on the water and as always we offer a warm welcome to fellow streaker sailors from around the area.
First of three races starts at 11.00. Briefing on the lawn at 10.30.
Our galley will be open all day and our well stocked bar for any post sail celebrations.
We are organising a Trophy day on Saturday 11th August which we propose to run for double handed boats only. The aim is to give less experienced members the chance to race with a more experienced helm and so introduce them to or increase their confidence in racing.
Please put your name on the list on the clubhouse noticeboard or email me before Monday 6th August if you wish to take part so that I can make up suitable pairings or possibly threes. The club double handed boats will be available free of charge for the day and the first race of 3 will be at 12.30 with 2 races to count.
Let’s try to get a big turn out from those with little or no experience of racing as well as the more experienced.

Football might be coming home – Wednesday sailing cancelled!
In view of England’s unexpected progress in the World Cup it has been decided to cancel sailing this coming Wednesday evening.
The general consensus was that this was a good idea so that those who want to watch the match can do so. I know there’ll be some who don’t approve but this is a very rare occasion and we’re not likely to see a repeat of this for another 30 years or so.
Although there may not be any sailing the Club will still be open and Karen will, as usual, be serving up some fantastic food, and Dave will supply us with the usual excellent beverage and you’ll be able to watch the match on the big screen and shout as loudly as you like. Friends and family are welcome.

Clear Those Weeds – Help Urgently Needed.
Saturday 30th June 10:00 Hours
You may have noticed that weeds are pushing up fast all around the club so it is proposed to have a good effort to get these under control and generally tidy the areas around the carpark, club buildings and berths.
If you can spare a couple of hours we can make light work of the job and get your club looking shipshape again! Full training will be given so you don’t need any prior experience, just get your gardening gloves on and down to the club around 10:00 on the 30th June. The club has only a limited number of tools so if you can bring some basic gardening stuff it would be helpful.
Refreshments will be provided and you might even get a sandwich if you work particularly hard.
In hope and expectation,
Just a reminder that this years Friday Night Junior & Beginner series will commence this Friday, June 1st and will run for 8 weeks until July 20th. There will be one race per evening starting at 7pm with a quick briefing at 6.30. You don’t need to sign up in advance, just turn up on the day.
This year we have extended the series to include beginners ie; those members who started sailing on or after January 1st 2017.
We will need at least 4 volunteers for safety duty, one of whom must hold their PB license. If you are able to offer assistance, please make yourself known at the club from about 6pm onwards. Thank you in advance to those who can turn up.
Any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
