Welcome back to sailing – Afternoon tea
24th March 2018 4pm
We are holding a welcome back to sailing afternoon tea on Saturday 24th March at 4pm.
There will be sandwiches, cakes, scones and of course tea and coffee. There will be tickets on sale this Wednesday evening in the foyer. There will also be a sign up sheet up on the notice board over the weekend.
Hope to see many people there and support our club. If you can’t make it why not buy a ticket for a family member or a loved one.
Its the last talk tonight a joint effort from our Commodore Peter Finney and our Rope and Training expert Adam Savage. Get down for a fun informative night and a chat about the forthcoming new season.
7,30 pm start and finish by 8.30 so plenty of time for a drink and chat afterwards. Hope to see you all there.
On Saturday 24th March starting at 11.00am all the boats stored in the Boat Shed will be taken out of the Shed. Can all owners please attend on that day and if they cant make it please can they nominate a substitute to take their boat out of the shed and put it back on its berth. Dave Moore and Peter Glynn usually oversee this “event” and help all as required.
The following Tuesday repair begins on the back wall of the shed so it must be cleared of all boats by then.
Within our Sailing Club, March is a very busy month getting the club prepared for another amazing season on and off the water. So we thought we’d carry out a bit of maintenance work on our website.
Welcome to our updated online home.
We would like to thank Dave Smith for his tireless work in keeping the previous site up to date with all of the things which happen across our club and hope the updated site meets everyone’s needs.
If you have any comments about the new site, please feel free to visit our comments page and send us a message … Contact Us

All club members are invited to attend working parties in the first three weekends of March 2018. This is your chance to smarten up the club in readiness for the coming season.
Works parties will take place on Saturday and Sunday of the first three weekends in March namely Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th , and Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th .
Work will commence at 10.00am and finish at 4.00pm on each day.
A couple of hours from each club member on any day or days would be appreciated. It is great fun and ensures we are ready to go at Easter. Please click on the button below for the list of jobs to be done, and please sign upon the identical list on the Notice Board in the foyer. It will also be helpful if you can bring down tools and materials which suit a particular job.
Please note there will be no sailing on any of these days.
The club now has a multitude of boats available to members which have proved invaluable in training new members and beginners. It is however proving increasingly more onerous to keep these boats in working order and insure them.
In order to provide some funds to help with this, from 1st April 2018, a policy will come into effect for club owned boats, a summary of which is below.
Use of club boats will be free to new members during their first membership cycle i.e. any time between 1st April 2018 and 31st March 2019. Preference for their use will be given to organised courses run by the club. Members should pay a fee for the use of club boats after the 31st March following initial membership.
Club boats should not normally be used at venues other than Elton Sailing Club unless for an event that they are being used to specifically represent the club eg WLYC 24 hour race.
Fees will be set at £5 for two and a half hours or less (half day) and £10 for a full day. These fees should be placed in an envelope provided with the date, time and person’s name in the suggestion box in the foyer.
The objectives of this policy are to have boats available for new members and training, encourage existing members to purchase their own boat and provide some funds to help with running costs of club boats. The full policy will be found on the notice board and this will be reviewed before April 2019 to see if it these objectives are being met.
Please can all members who have road trailers in the dinghy park mark them up with names and boat numbers before the end of February. We plan to clear this area for additional berths or car parking. Unmarked trailers will be auctioned off.
