Sailing and Training Programme

Warm Weather exciting sailing – Throughout June and into July.

The Sunday Spring Handicap Series sponsored by Marston’s Brewery drew to its exciting conclusion on 10th June. Congratulations to all who took part in this competitive series. 1st Place went to Steve Restall, 2nd place to Dave Read, 3rd place to Clive Roberts. 1st lady was Lisa Mullineux, Juniors Joint first were Ava Harris and Lauren Hoarty, 2nd Ben Williams and 3rd Kelly Walsh.

The Summer handicap Series started on Sunday 17th June and runs through to Sunday 19th August. First of three races starts at 12.30.

The Wednesday evening Handicap series sponsored by Moore and Moore Windows started on Wednesday 16th May 2018 and finishes on 19th July. Race start time is 19.30. As always this event is well attended so get down to the Club house and enjoy the exhilaration of getting out on the water in a big fleet, and even better talking about the incidents in the bar afterwards.

Saturdays are devoted to training and taster sessions, and recreational sailing.

Mike Seger, John O’Brien, Nigel Greaves and Dave Read have run the 5 week long Stage 1 and 2, RYA course for new Juniors at the Club.  The Youngsters can now come down Saturday afternoons and practice their skills using club boats. Help is always at hand just ask.

Ladies Who Launch started on 17th May so get down to the Club on Thursday evening at 6.30 for a good sail, with excellent sailing tuition.

FRIDAY NIGHT JUNIOR AND BEGINNER RACE.

Just a reminder that this years Friday Night Junior & Beginner series commenced on  Friday, June 1st and will run for 8 weeks until July 20th. There will be one race per evening starting at 7pm with a quick briefing at 6.30. You don’t need to sign up in advance, just turn up on the day.

This year we have extended the series to include beginners i.e.; those members who started sailing on or after January 1st 2017. The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to racing away from the main fleet, to inspire water confidence and allow time to practice those skills previously learnt in a quieter environment than is offered on the weekends or Wednesday nights.  We do not offer instruction per se but there will be on-the-water assistance available during the races to anyone who may need it. More than anything, it’s about getting out there and having fun!

As this is a series run entirely independent from the main racing, we are reliant on volunteers for safety cover. This is NOT included in your annual Dutyman requirements but without help from volunteers the series cannot go ahead. We will need at least 4 volunteers for safety duty, one of whom must hold their PB license. If you are able to offer assistance, please make yourself known at the club from about 6pm onwards. Thank you in advance to those who can turn up.

Any questions, please email me at stephaniecfuller@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Hope to see you there on Friday and am looking forward to another great series this year!

Yours Steph Fuller

Shark Attack the local sailing equipment specialist is also kindly  sponsoring the club and stock is available to view and buy in the clubhouse on most Saturdays.

As always the Galley and bar are open and all are assured of a warm Elton welcome, both on the well used front lawn and in the club house.
